Anantha Padmanabha Vratham
As per vedic practice the sacred ritual of Anantha Padmanabha Vratham will be performed on Shukla Chaturdashi of Bhadrapada Masam.
On this occasion, at 6:00 AM, the Srivari Sudarshan Chakrathalvars (divine discus of Lord Vishnu) is taken in a procession from the temple to Swami Pushkarini, near the Sri Bhu Varaha Swami temple. Priests perform traditional rituals and pujas there. After the sacred bath (abhishekam), the Chakrathalwar is respectfully brought back to the temple.
Later the vrata kankanam of Sri Ananta Padmanabha swamy will be offered at the sannidhi of Sri Venkateswara swamy and archana will be performed. The Kankanam will be worn by the temple priests, officials and others.
Anantha Padmanabha Swamy
Ananta refers to Adisesha, the divine serpent. On this day, householders worship Lord Maha Vishnu in the form of Ananta Padmanabha Swami (who rests on Adisesha) to seek prosperity and blessings.
Just as Lord Venkateswara is highly revered in Kali Yuga, the reclining form of Lord Vishnu—Ananta Padmanabha Swami—is equally special. Every year, on this sacred day, the Ananta Padmanabha Vratam is observed in all 108 Sri Vaishnava Divya Desams across India.
Since Tirumala is one of the most important Divya Desams, priests perform this vratam with full traditional rituals.
In Tirumala, the Chakrasnanam (holy bath of the Sudarshana Chakra) is performed only on special days like the last day of Brahmotsavam, Vaikuntha Dwadashi, Ratha Saptami, and Ananta Padmanabha Vratam.
