Shankari Devi Shakti Peeth is one of the important Astha Dasha Shakti Peeth. Here Sati Devi’s groin (wife of Lord Shiva) had fallen. In this place, Sati Devi is worshipped as Shankari Devi and Lord Shiva is worshipped as Trinkoneshwara. Shankari Devi Temple is located at Trincomalee in Sri Lanka.

According to the priest accounts, at present there is no temple available at this place now and it is said that, the Temple was destroyed by Portuguese between 16th and 17th centuries. The Portuguese demolished the cliff top of the Devi temple. At present in its original site stands a lone pillar. Tough the temple was ruined by the foreign invaders it is believed that amma has been preserved in the present temple, which is by the side of the place where the originally used to be.

The original Shankari Devi temple was said to be built by Ravana and is the first in the list of Astha Dasha Shakti pithas written by Adi Shankaracharya.

The temple opens 6:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM

How to Reach Shankari Devi Temple

Indian travelers need visa to travel to Sri Lanka. Visa exemption or visa free-access does not apply to India.

Reach Bandaranaike Airport from there one should travel to Colombo Fort. Buses will be available, bus 187 takes you to Colombo Fort. From Colombo Fort one can reach the temple through train.
