Arunachalam Temple Legend
Legend has it that the gigantic Lingam (the symbolic representation of Lord Shiva) in the temple represents the element of fire and is believed to be a manifestation of Lord Arunachaleswara. The hill around the temple is considered sacred and is said to embody the element of Agni (fire). Pilgrims believe that circumambulating the Arunachala hill, known as Giripradakshinam, will free them from sins.
This temple is located in the town of Thiruvannamalai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The temple is one of the largest in India and is considered one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalas, representing the element of fire (Agni). The temple has a vast and impressive architecture, with several concentric prakarams (enclosures) and towering gopurams (gateway towers).

Giripradakshinam, the circumambulation of the Arunachala hill, is a revered practice. The path is approximately 14 kilometers long, and pilgrims undertake this journey as a form of penance and devotion. Many pilgrims prefer performing Giripradhakshina during a full moon night, believing that the positive energy is heightened during this time.
