Mahadev Temple

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is located at 1330 metres above the sea level.  One can see the astonishing Vishnukoot and Brahmakoot hills from here. It is dedicated to Lord Siva. Thousands of devotees throng the temple on Sivaratri in Sravana month. Its a famous pilgrimage near Rishikesh, the temple lies above Swargashram adjacent to Nar Narayan mountain range.

Its one of the prominent place listed under Incredible India. As the name suggests, Neelkanth is associated with Lord Shiva. As per Hindu mythology, this is the place where Shiva consumed all the poison from the ocean and placed it in his throat. This made Shiva’s throat turn blue in colour. There’s always a steady stream of ardent devotees who come here and offer prayers to Mahadev.

Best Time To Visit: You can visit in any month except January.

By Bus: Its located at approximately 25KMs from Adarsh Gram Bus Stand, Rishikesh.

By Train: The nearest railway station is located at Rishikesh, which is 32KMs away from the temple.

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun is the nearest airport, which is 49 KMs away from the temple.
