Srivari Abhishekam – The Ancient Friday Seva at Tirumala

• Every Friday, after the morning Suprabhata Seva, the usual Thomala and Archana Sevas are done privately. Then, the special Srivari Abhishekam is performed.
• This is the oldest Arjitha Seva (paid seva) at the Tirumala temple.

How the Abhishekam seva is Done

• The ritual begins with sacred water brought from Akasa Ganga Theertham.
• Then the Lord is bathed with milk, pure water (Suddhodakam), sandal paste and other fragrant items like powdered camphor (Pachcha Karpooram), saffron paste and drops of civet oil.
• Priests chant powerful hymns such as Purusha Sukta, Narayana Sukta, Sri Sukta, Bhu Sukta, Neela Sukta and verses from the Divya Prabandham during the Abhishekam.
• Later, Goddess Lakshmi’s image on the Lord’s chest is specially anointed with turmeric paste.

Role of Devotees

• Devotees who take part in this seva (called Arjitha Grihastas) gather inside the temple.
• Each devotee is given a silver vessel filled with fragrant items like camphor powder, saffron paste, civet oil and sandal paste.
• They carry these vessels around the inner prakaram (temple corridor) along with traditional music.
• At the Bangaru Vakili (golden entrance), priests collect the vessels and use the contents for the Abhishekam.

Historical Background

• In 966 A.D., a Pallava queen named Samaavai gifted the temple a silver idol of Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy, which is a miniature replica of the main deity.
• This gift was made on a Friday, during Jyestha Bahula Tritheeya when the Sravana star was in ascendance.
• At the time of installing this idol, an Abhishekam was performed to the main deity.
• From then onwards, the tradition of performing Abhishekam to the Moola Virat (main deity) every Friday began.

• Abhishekam Seva will be performed from 3:30 AM. 
• Cost of the ticket is Rs. 750 per person.
• Prasadam – 1 Laddu
• No Online Booking for Tirumala Abhishekam seva.

Dress Code

How To Book Tirumala Abishekam Seva?

There are 2 ways to get Abishekam Seva ticket.

1. Register for Offline lucky dip at CRO Office on Thursday before 12 PM. If you got selected in the lucky dip , you will be informed through SMS to collect the ticket.
2. This Seva tickets can be availed through high level recommendation letter. You need to submit the recommendation letter at JEO office, Tirumala . Once approved you will get an SMS and can collect the ticket at MBC 34.
