Laksha Kumkumarchana at Tiruchanur

The special ritual, “Laksha Kumkumarchana,” is being performed before the commencement of nine day ‘Karthika Brahmotsavams’ at the famous Sri Padmavathi Devi temple in Tiruchanoor, marking an auspicious event in the Hindu Goddess temple.

Significance of Kumkum: In Hindu Sanatana Dharma, “Kumkum” or Vermilion holds great importance, especially for married women who apply it on their foreheads to wish for their husbands’ long lives. It represents Goddess Shakti, who is also known as Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswathi, and Goddess Parvathi.

Ritual Details: Before starting any major religious event like Brahmotsavams, priests perform the “Laksha Kumkumarchana” ritual to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the event by appeasing the Goddess.

Event, laksha Kumkumarchana at Tiruchanur: At the Sri Padmavathi Devi temple, priests performed the “Laksha Kumkumarchana” from 7 AM to 12 noon to the processional deity of Goddess Padmavathi, seated on a decorated platform in Mukha Mandapam, opposite Sri Krishna Swamy temple.

The priests recited “Lakshmi Astottaram”, “Lakshmi Sahasranamam” several hundred times and carried out “Laksha Kumkumarchana” with devotional fervour. Every time when they were reciting the multiple name of the Goddess, archana was done with vermilion to the processional deity. Hundreds of women devotees took part in this special ritual.
