The wedding ceremony is held according to Vaikhanasa Agama rituals and starts with the Panchamurthi Puja. This is followed by recitation of Vedic mantras and pronouncing the family pedigree of the brides and bridegroom. The idols of the Lord and his brides face each other with a tera (screen) in between them. After the priests perform appropriate homas, the bridegroom and the brides are allowed to see each other at the appropriate auspicious moment as the screen is removed. This is followed by Mangala sutra dharana, Talambralu and then Lord and his consorts are garlanded.
The practice of Kalyana urchavam started in 1536 AD when Tallapakam Tirumala Ayyangar got the idea of celebrating the marriage festival of Lord Malayappa swami and the ceremony was conducted over five days in the Tirumamani mandapam in the main temple premises.

I have made booking a month's back for kalyanotsavam on 22-Jan-17. Unfortunately, my close relatives (my own sister-in-law) demised recently on 03-Nov-17. When I took the advice from a temple poojari garu that there is "SOOTHAKAM" up to 3 months and you should not perform Kalyanotsavam in Tirumala.
Can you please give me suggestion that how do I can postpone the Kalyanotsavam schedule until clear of "Soothakam" (Obit situation) or I may eligible to perform the Kalyanotsavam...?
Your early reply is solicited.
Mallepoola Krishna Murthy
Hi,
You should not perform any rituals till Soothakam is completed. You can visit normal temples after 3 months, but major temples like Tirumala should be visited after 11 months only.
There is no way to postpone your tickets. You need to try booking again once your soothakam is completed , please consult your pujari before deciding the next booking date.
