Birla Mandir

Birla Mandir refers to different Hindu temples or Mandirs built by Birla family in different cities. Usually these temples are built of marbles and sandstone. They are designed in such a way that, they can accommodate large number of visitors. They are placed or situated at very prominent locations.

Birla Mandir in Hyderabad is completely built by white marble. The mandir in Hyderabad is dedicated to lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala Tirupati Temple. It is said that the idol of Lord Venkateshwara here, is the replica of Balaji of Tirupati. This temple is located on top of a hill, which is 280 feet high. The point where the temple is located, was one of highest spots of the city at that point of time. The view of the city from the top of the temple is worth of all efforts, it provides a panoramic view of the twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Birla is considered to be one of the top 10 tourist places to visit in Hyderabad.

Architecture

The style in which Birla Mandir, Hyderabad is built is a blend of both North and South Indian style of temple architecture. The ‘Gopuram’ of the temple shows the features of a South Indian Temple. The ‘Jagadananda Vimanam’ built at the top of sanctum sanctorum resembles the Oriya style of temple architecture. It took ten years to complete the temple. Scenes of the Indian Epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata are carved on the walls and the ceiling of the Mandir or temple. Statues of different deities from Hindu mythology can be found from beginning of the entrance up to sanctum sanctorum.
