Andal Neerattotsavam and Goda Kalyanam at Tirupati

Andal Neerattotsavam

The divine union of Sri Andal (Godadevi) with Lord Srikrishna is commemorated annually in Tirupati with great devotion and grandeur. According to tradition, Andal desired to marry Lord Srikrishna and observed the sacred Dhanurmasa Vratam. In memory of this event, the Andal Neerattotsavam is celebrated for seven days before the Bhogi festival during Dhanurmasam.

Each day, the Utsava Murti of Sri Andal Ammavaru from Sri Govindarajaswami Temple, Tirupati, is taken in a palanquin procession through the Mada streets. The procession reaches the Neeratta Mandapam at Ramachandra Pushkarini, where traditional rituals are performed:

  • Neerattam (Abhishekam)
  • Nivedanam
  • Saattumora
  • Asthanam

The deity remains at the mandapam until evening, after which Andal is adorned with flowers and carried back in a palanquin to the temple. This ritual continues for seven consecutive days, filling the town with devotion and festive spirit.

Bhogi Day – Goda Kalyanam

On the eighth day, Bhogi, Andal Ammavaru ascends the Bhogi Palanquin along with Sri Krishnaswami. In the evening, the divine couple is taken in procession through the Mada streets and finally reaches the temple sanctum (sannidhi). This day marks the celestial wedding of Godadevi and Lord Srikrishna, celebrated with grandeur and devotion.

Goda Parinayotsavam

The festivities continue on the following day, Kanuma, with the celebration of Goda Parinayotsavam. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness these sacred events, which symbolize the eternal bond of Andal’s devotion and the Lord’s divine grace.
