Float Festival at Padmavati Temple

Float festivals are held in almost all the temples in South India at different times as per the custom especially during Spring season. Sri Padmavathi Devi temple is situated at Tiruchanur. It has got the name as Alamelu Mangapuram. The Goddess is the wife of Tirumala Sri Venkateswara swamy.

The annual float festival of Goddess Padmavathi devi at Thiruchanoor is marvelous. During this festival Goddess takes a pleasant rine on finely decorated flotilla at Padma Sarovar, Tiruchanoor for 5 days. Usually the annual fete of Goddess is celebrated starting from Jyestha Suddha Ekadasi Pournami. The flotilla turns out to be a divine setting with an impressive floral decoration and serial lighting to watch in the backdrop of the blue Sky.

Lord Sri Krishna with His consorts is taken in procession on the float on the first day. Lord Sundararajaswami enjoys the float festival on the second day. From day 3 to 5, it is the turn of Goddess Sri Padmavathi Devi who enjoys the grand festival. She is decorated with splendid ornaments and beautiful flowers.

The Idol is taken out in a procession from the temple to Pushkariki located near the temple. Later the Deity is taken on a colorfully decorated flotilla. Goddess Padmavtahi Devi blesses the devotees from the flotilla on all the 5 days. The Deity will be taken in a procession on Garuda vahanam around the temple on the final day. The celebration of float festival is an eye-feast to the devotees. During the float festival, Goddess Padmavathi ammavaru will be beautifully decorated will costly ornaments and gorgeous flowers. The Tirumala Tirupati Devesthanams (TTD) arranges special devotional programmes in connection with the celestial festival under the auspices of the Hindu Drama Prachara Parishad to inspire and invoke spiritual values in the hearts of large number of devotees of Goddess Padmavathi Devi.

As innumerable pilgrims visit Thiruchananur  and Tirumala equally, the TTD will make all facilities for the conveyance of pilgrims with more buses run by APSRTC and Annaprasadam made freely available everyday for the pilgrims.
